NOTE-MINT
prototype · Software Engineering
A browser-based note prototype that keeps temporary notes in sessionStorage and supports PDF export without requiring an account.
Problem
Some short-lived notes do not need account creation or server persistence, but users may still want a portable export before ending a browser session.
Target users
People who need temporary browser notes and an explicit PDF export path without creating an account.
Why it matters
Keeping the workflow in the browser reduces account and server-storage requirements while making the temporary lifecycle visible.
Main features
- Session-scoped note storage
- PDF export
- Account-free browser workflow
- Explicit temporary-data model
System architecture
The prototype keeps note state in the browser through sessionStorage and performs export from the client rather than introducing a persistent backend.
Data flow
Note text moves between the React interface and browser sessionStorage, then passes to the PDF export path when the user chooses to save a file.
Backend architecture
Browser sessionStorage handles note persistence, keeping the workflow independent of an application backend.
Frontend architecture
A TypeScript and React client manages note editing, session state, and PDF export.
Deployment approach
The prototype is available through Vercel for browser-based testing of session behavior and PDF export.
Security and privacy
Avoiding server persistence reduces one storage surface, but notes remain accessible within the browser session and exported files are managed by the user.
Evaluation strategy
Functional evaluation should cover session lifecycle, refresh and tab behavior, PDF export consistency, keyboard navigation, accessibility, and browser compatibility.
Engineering challenges
The prototype must align temporary browser lifecycle behavior with a predictable export path and clear expectations about data persistence.
Trade-offs
Session storage supports a low-friction temporary workflow but does not provide cross-device access, durable recovery, or account-based history.
Impact
NOTE-MINT demonstrates an account-free note workflow built around temporary browser state and explicit PDF export.
Future improvements
Add automated browser tests for session lifecycle and export, clarify recovery limits, and review exported-file handling across supported browsers.
